Transition Program

Supporting Students as They Move Toward Independence

At Meliora Academy, we recognize that transitioning from school to adulthood is a critical time for our students. Our Transition Program is carefully designed to provide individualized supports that build independence, functional skills, and confidence, empowering students to thrive as they enter adulthood. Our evidence-based programming is specifically designed for students with Autism to gain the life skills, employability skills, and real-world competencies to lead productive postsecondary lives.

Personalized, Student-Centered Approach

Every student’s transition plan is tailored to their unique strengths, needs, and goals. The interdisciplinary team at Meliora supports growth in academic, social, emotional, and functional skills to help students transition confidently into adulthood through academic programming and therapeutics, but also real-world experiences.

Real-World Learning

Our transition program extends learning beyond traditional settings, offering hands-on experiences to support growth and independence. Practicing life-ready skills in a safe and supportive environment builds the competencies and confidence to lead independent lives. Specifically, students:

  • Learn employability skills through application of math and communication competencies in our student-run coffee shop and mini mart
  • Build independence and life-ready skills through programming in our mock apartment, complete with kitchen, bedroom, laundry, and shower
  • Participate in community-based learning to generalize skills outside of school

These experiences help students build essential life, employability, and real-world skills to feel confident in and outside of school.
