Meliora Academy Personalized Learning Programs

Communication, Reading, and Writing

At Meliora Academy, we aim to develop our students’ communication skills to their fullest potential. Through the development of reading and writing skills, we follow the trajectory outlined in the Common Core State Standards, modifying and adapting students’ goals and objectives as needed.

To prepare students for success in all aspects of adult life, we embed speaking, writing, and listening into many daily activities to foster socialization, interaction, and self-expression. We also focus on helping students interpret and share information from both text and visual presentations.

Social Studies

Our Social Studies curriculum helps students understand issues, events, and their impact on daily life. By building knowledge and providing opportunities to apply their learning, students become more engaged in their communities.

Social Studies is integrated into thematic units and reinforced throughout the year. We use the Connecticut Social Studies Framework as the foundation for learning experiences that connect with all aspects of the school day.
